Ryan’s POV ……
So, I recently had the lucky opportunity to attend this year’s National Conference in Embu’s Izaak Walton Inn. To be honest at first I was a bit anxious going into it because I didn’t know what to expect but with the incredible support I had, I was able to push through. It actually turned out to be a great experience and I was really glad that I went. Among the things I wanted to do was to network with other AIESECers which I was able to do. I managed to speak to others from JKUAT, CUEA, Kabarak, Daystar, UON, USIU, KU and also interact with international delegates from Tanzania and Ethiopia. From these interactions, they were able to give me insights into their experiences thus far which were of help to me as I continue to carve out a journey of my own.
Among the interesting things we participated in was the Community Canvas, where we went into Embu town to identify any business in each of our groups field of work and try to help bolster their business in any way we could. This could be through offering insights on how to improve the business or actively trying to help these entrepreneurs in any way they would allow us to. For our group we targeted marketing businesses and we managed to reach out to a lady who was selling vegetables and we helped her sell them. In order to do this we walked around the community actively advertising the produce to people to sell. This was a bit tricky at the start because most people we reached out to were unwilling to buy the vegetables but we managed to push through and it paid off as we managed to sell all the vegetables offered to us even making a profit! This was really satisfying and so was the lady when we brought her the good news. Through this experience, I was able to experience what it is like to sell goods for the first time and all that comes with it which was really eye-opening. I was really grateful for the experience.

Throughout the conference we had really insightful spaces about leadership and we were able to apply this in some practical sessions for example in a space which resembled Model UN and also in the technological world, start-up businesses and creatives world. We also had team building spaces where we were able to bond with fellow delegates through the various activities we did.
Lest I forget the theme nights! They were an absolute vibe. The best one in my opinion was the one where we dressed up as senior citizens. It was amazing to see the creativity and effort put into this party and it also brought out different sides of people as a result. Through all this I was able to make new friends, get out of my comfort zone and challenge myself. I also made memories that will stick with me.
Overall, it was a truly great experience and one thing I will surely take away from the conference was that as AIESECers we are privileged to be in the positions we are at so the challenge would be: What are we doing with that privilege?
